Shigeru Uchida reinterprets the traditional Japanese shoji screen in the Slide sideboard, where a gliding aluminium door moves across white MDF cabinetry. Resting on four slender metal legs, the piece carries a lightness and a Modernist sensibility.
Shigeru Uchida (1943–2016) was a leading figure of post-war Japanese design, was known for his pursuit of shaping furniture to its most ‘minimal sense of gravity, transcending its physical presence.’ An urban planner, architect, as well as a designer of tea pavilions and tea ceremonies, his designs are held at the Metropolitan Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
The piece is in good condition, labelled Pastoe on the inside.
