This pewter table lamp was designed by Sylvia Stave for C.G. Hallberg in Stockholm during the 1930s. Stave was the company’s artistic director from 1931 to 1939, designing a range of silver and pewter objects during her tenure.
The lamp reflects the precise, pared-back approach for which Stave’s work is known. Its form is built from simple geometric volumes, with linear engravings giving the piece a horizontal rhythm. The pewter surface has a soft patina that suits the simplicity of the design.
The piece is in good condition relative to its age – it features some marks and scratches.
Stave is perhaps best known for her jugs and cocktail shakers with their distinctive wrapped handles. Her work for C.G. Hallberg has since become highly sought after by collectors, particularly for its purity of form and economy of detail.
