American industrial designer and entrepreneur Ron Rezek (b. 1946) studied under Charles Eames and Henry Dreyfuss at UCLA, before launching Ron Rezek Lighting in the late 1970s. His sleek Stratos model, designed in 1988, turned the ceiling fan into a design object. As he said: “Most of the fans on the market were reproduction Victorian fans, and if a guy had a Mies van der Rohe apartment in Chicago, he probably wasn’t going to put one in there.”
An exercise in balance, this patinated zinc desk lamp reflects Rezek’s pursuit of ‘pure geometry’. The rim of the perforated shade is decorated with Bauhaus-esque triangle, square and circle cut outs, while a slim band of brass is inlaid where the wide stem meets the flared base.
The original label on the underside makes this a rare find.
Recently rewired and PAT tested to UK standards. There is some minor surface wear.
