Spanish painter and illustrator Roc Riera Rojas (1913-1992) spent decades producing expressive images for books and magazines alongside personal work as a painter. From the 1950s his work featured in a series of exhibitions at Barcelona gallery Sala Gasper, best-known for exhibiting the avant-garde work of artists such as Pablo Picasso, Savador Dalí, Joan Miró. He was a professor of painting and design at the Massana School in Barcelona from 1970 and 1977.
Dated Feb ‘59, and titled on an adhesive label from the Galerie de Arte in Barcelona, this signed oil portrays peces – or fish – with a depth of abstraction largely absent from his wider body of work.
In good condition, with no obvious wear to the frame.
