This student desk by Pierre Jeanneret – known as model PJ-BU-08-B – features a rectangular top with drop-down sides, complete with compass-style legs.
Geneva-born architect Pierre Jeanneret (b.1896–1967) is best known for his decades-long collaboration with Le Corbusier. After their manifesto ‘Five Steps Towards a New Style of Architecture’, they designed the Villa Savoye together in 1929 – a physical manifestation of this writing.
But it was Jeanneret’s final fifteen years of his oeuvre that were most defining, where he worked in India as the Chief Architect and Designer of urban redevelopment in Chandigarh. During this time, he designed everything from the campus of the Punjab University to the smallest furniture details across the city – which this student desk is an example of.
The desk is in good condition, with letters ‘G.P.B.6’ painted on the back.
