Philippe Starck Romantica chair

Driade, Italy, 1989

Hire Only

The overt industrialism of this late Eighties design is believed to pay homage to Philippe Starck’s father, the aeronautical engineer André Starck. Its fluid, almost muscular form is tempered by the lightness of sheet aluminium, studded with two rows of rivets. Gently sloping legs propel the structure forward in a display of movement and dynamism.

French architect and industrial designer Philippe Starck (b.1949) is widely credited with ushering in a new era of “democratic design”. His philosophy, shaped by an aeronautical engineer father, produced a protean cavalcade of interiors, furniture and home accessories that embraced functional elegance. Among his biggest hits are the Juicy Salif juicer for Alessi (1990) and the Ghost chair for Kartell (2002).

In great condition, with some minor scratches to the legs.
