Pair of Thonet Mundus A 60 F armchairs

With their Bauhaus form this pair of ‘A 60 F’ bentwood armchairs by Thonet Mundus epitomise avant-garde design. Their arms and legs connect to form a soft rectangular form, giving the chair a gentle yet stable rock.

The A 60 series defied expectations with its materiality – its appearance convincingly resembling metal rather than bentwood. Only a year prior, the steel furniture company L. & C. Arnold showcased a near-identical design in tubular steel by architect Arthur Korn in their catalogue. This armchair is a rare specimen from the series, published in the Thonet-Mundus catalog in 1929.

The beech wood has been refinished in a black stain with a crack to the leg restored. Seat cushions have been reupholstered in a black mohair velvet. Structurally sound condition.
