Mariyo Yagi is a Japanese sculptor whose artistic practice is based on her Nawa rope principle: Spiral energy and human beings as metaphorical rope, twisted and twined, stronger together. Braided rope is a longstanding motif and material within her work. Yagi’s collaboration with the Italian lighting producer Sirrah can be understood to be part of the era’s burgeoning trend for collaborations between Italian manufacturers and Japanese designers such as Kazuhide Takahama and Shiro Kuramata.
The Garbo series designed for Dino Gavina, produced by Sirrah harnesses Yagi’s rope motif in a fringe of light. Mounted ceiling boxes house a series of bulbs that illuminate the interior of long fringed curtains. The lights are both sculptural and functional, a beautiful presence within spaces, great on each sides of a bed for example.
The lamps are in good condition. They have been PAT tested and wired for use in the UK.
