Born from the forge of German designer Lothar Klute (b. 1946), this pair of cast bronze coffee tables offset organic texture with Brutalist heft. The lipped slab of cast iced glass rests on a band of forged iron, which meets four tapered legs at decorative iron belts. The metal’s irregular surface recalls the rhythm of whittled wood.
Klute initially trained as a blacksmith in rural Mailar before studying sculpture in Aachen. He produced several public sculptures for Berlin in the 1970s, and now works from a smithy and sculpture park, Galerie Klute in der Waldemai, on the site of an old slate mine near Schmallenberg.
In good condition, with no visible cracks to the glass.
