Pair Garnier & Linker Retina wall lights

Named for its semblance to optical anatomy, the ‘Retina’ circular wall light is made using a lost wax casting technique favoured by jewellers. A refractory mould is used to produce the projecting glass disc, here sat within a patinated brass structure. Bubbles in the glass, which emerge as part of the casting process, mirror nature’s formation of frost, lichen or coral. This pair is signed with ‘GL’ on the bracket and numbered as 46 and 47.

Garnier & Linker is Guillaume Garnier and Florent Linker. The Paris-based designers cut their cloth in interior design, at Studio KO and India Mahdavi respectively, before teaming up and turning their focus to furniture, lighting and objects handmade by French craftspeople. Informed by decorative arts and sculpture, they produce finely-tuned pieces from materials like marble, walnut and alabaster. 

These two have been reclaimed from an interior, so they have evidence of having been fitted against a wall.
