Only the second chair designed by Enzo Mari, this prescient pair in plastic and steel have an architectonic quality thanks to the perforated grid of the boxy seat. Its design predates his Autoprogettazione workbook but heralds its spirit in eight components that plug together without need for tools.
As Oliver Basciano wrote in his obituary in the Guardian in 2020, politics infused everything that designer Enzo Mari touched. An ardent communist, Mari hated the gallery. Seeing it as pornographic window dressing, he preferred to make pieces for mass production or eschew it altogether, offering his designs open source to the public to make themselves in his project ‘Autoprogettazione’.
In good condition, with some scuffs and scratches to seat edges and back rest.
