Olivier Mourgue (1939 -) is a French artist and industrial designer who in 1963 began working for Airborne International, where he designed this iconic Djinn sofa. Mourgue took inspiration from Djinn – Arabian genies that could adopt any form, human or animal. This shines through in the silhouette of the chair, with the chair being captured in a state between human and inanimate.
The Djinn sofa is arguably one of Olivier Mourgues most coveted designs, made famous by Stanley Kubrick’s film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. Only further verifying it as an icon of space age design.
Recently upholstered by previous owner in a white bouclé, which has been dry cleaned. In good vintage condition.
