Aptly named Tentazione, or ‘temptation’, this sofa boasts a cushioned form that seeks to comfortably envelop the sitter. Bellini designed the sofa for Cassina in 1973, a year after the Bambole series, as part of his exploration of softer forms of upholstered furniture.
The compact two-seater retains the deep, plump proportions of the larger version. Its form is defined almost entirely by the upholstery, giving the sofa a relaxed appearance without relying on an exposed frame.
It is in good condition and has been recently reupholstered in a brown cotton velvet.
Milanese architect Mario Bellini (b.1935) is one of our greatest living designers. His instinct for creating monumental pieces of design with distinctive architectural character has won him eight Compasso d’Oro awards and the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement by the Triennale di Milano.
