Aptly named Tentazione, or ‘temptation’, this three-seater sofa boasts a cushioned form that seeks to comfortably envelop the sitter. Bellini designed the sofa for Cassina in 1973, a year after the Bambole series, as part of his exploration of softer forms of upholstered furniture.
The sofa has a deep profile, with the individual sections creating a continuous, plush form. Bellini’s approach here was less about a rigid frame than about allowing the upholstery to define the shape of the piece.
It is in good condition, and has been recently reupholstered in a cream cotton velvet.
Milanese architect Mario Bellini (b.1935) is one of our greatest living designers. His instinct for creating monumental pieces of design with distinctive architectural character has won him eight Compasso d’Oro awards and the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement by the Triennale di Milano.
