British artist Lionel Ellis (1903–1988) studied at Plymouth School of Art and later taught at Wimbledon School of Art for more than 30 years. This signed wood engraving depicts a reclining nude figure in almost chiaroscuro-like monochrome. It is mounted with a section of linen within a beautifully aged wooden frame.
