British artist Lionel Ellis (1903–1988) studied at Plymouth School of Art and later taught at Wimbledon School of Art for more than 30 years. This signed wood engraving depicts a chiaroscuro-like nude figure in sylvan surrounds. It is mounted with a section of linen within a beautifully aged wooden frame, which has a loop for hanging at the top.
