Lino Sabattini silver-plated glass carafe

This elegant wide-necked glass carafe, which still bears the maker’s sticker, sits within a silver-plated bowl with a rolled edge. It’s typical of Sabattini’s finely tuned production in metal, with a cut-out steel cap that reveals the lip.

“I find that the workshop is often better than a school, because there is the possibility of doing and of learning, and sometimes of making mistakes,” said self-taught Sabattini. His elegant silver-plated objects caught the eye of Gio Ponti, who became his mentor and collaborator. He went on to lead the workshops of Christofle, and in 1964 opened his factory, where this carafe was produced, in Bregano near Como. His works are held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

In excellent vintage condition, with the maker’s original sticker.
