Giandomenico Belotti’s Spaghetti chair takes its name from the long PVC cord wrapped around its tubular metal frame. Designed for Alias in 1979, it reduces the conventional chair to a simple structure of steel and flexible cord.
The repeated winding of the cord allows for the frame to remain visible. The construction of the chair is direct and economical, with the material itself becoming its defining feature.
Belotti designed the Spaghetti chair as part of Alias’s early experimentation with industrial materials and simple forms. The design has since become one of the Italian manufacturer’s best-known pieces. It is part of the MoMa’s permanent collection in New York.
The chair is in good vintage condition, with some scuffs to the metal frame. The piece still features the maker’s label.
