Frank Gehry Easy Edges nesting tables

Frank Gehry, the ‘gratuitously eccentric’ architect behind the Guggenheim Bilbao gained attention in the 1970s with his ‘Easy Edges’ furniture series (1969-73). Constructed in corrugated cardboard and fibreboard, the line’s most emblematic designs include the Body Contour Rocker (1971) and Easy Edges Side Chair (1970). It is possible Gehry’s interest in found and everyday materials was inspired by a childhood making cities out of scrap wood-chippings with his Grandma and a short spell designing chairs for army soldiers. He made his Santa Monica home, a deconstructivist work of art, from plywood, corrugated metal and chain-link fence.

Now out of production, these nesting tables were designed in 1972 and produced by Vitra in 1999. They are elementary but distinctive, proportionate and speak a language of fun utilitarianism – yet they are also very strong and durable.

Two sets available. One is in near perfect condition, while the other has some age spots and light wear to the front panels.
