An almost preternatural instinct for glassmaking delivered Italian artist Flavio Poli (1900-1984) to prestigious Murano glass furnace Seguso Vetri d’Arte, where he oversaw design for almost thirty years. He received one of the inaugural Compasso d’Oro awards in 1954 for his ‘Mod. 9822’ split colour vase, and has works in the Murano Glass Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
With its aequoreal, clam-like form, this ruffled glass bowl is testament to the skilful production of the Seguso Vetri d’Arte furnace. There is a wonderfully ethereal quality to its iridescent shimmer, which has been achieved with flecks of gold foil.
This delicate piece is in excellent vintage condition.
