Ettore Sottsass Cometa Floor lamp, lacquered aluminium and chromed brass with signature wavy milk plastic diffuser. Original label. Produced for the Design Centre for Poltronova, Italy, 1970 as part of the Mobili Grigi series. Sottsass, architect and concentration camp survivor, was a founding member of the Memphis Milano group and is hailed as ushering in postmodernism. His use of radical forms and colours were a direct antidote to the purity of functional modernism and were inspired by a trip to Southern India. His mantra: Design should be radical, sensual, it should make you “vibrate”.
Condition: A small melted section at top out of view caused by use of wrong bulb, minor scuffs and scratches to plastic. New transformer, fluroescent and red LED bulbs, rewired and PAT tested.
