A romantic depiction of a female nude by early 20th-century French sculptor and artist Émile-Just Bachelet (1892-1981). Living and working in Nancy and Paris, he created a large number of public works, such as war memorials and decorative friezes, as well as more intimate pieces. His style was initially angular and spare but became softer as he matured as an artist.
The sculpture, which comes with the wood plinth, is signed E. J. BACHELET on the base. There are small cracks and marks and a patch on the back, which was likely made by the artist.
