A rare 19th Century antique zinc double-ended roll-top bathtub by Chevalier Constructeur Paris, with decorative marbled exterior and striking cross motif. Military bathtubs like these were used by high-ranking officials on the battlefields during Napoleon’s conquests of the 1800s.
The tub is marked Chevalier Constructeur Paris, Faubourg Saint Denis, 3 Rue de Dunkerque, model number 25397. Original plug present, with no overflow. The zinc surface has a tactile feel to it, with deep patina and oxidisation from years of use, the rim has some dents. The wooden feet are aged, with evidence of former woodworm. The original hand-painted faux marble decoration is worn, the cross-motif rusted. Appears watertight, not tested extensively, may benefit from further sealing for reassurance.
