1950s birch cabinet, model CB06 cabinet designed by top Dutch designer Cees Braakman for UMS Pastoe, Netherlands. Constructed from a blonde birch ply there are four shelves to the interior and four drawers. The item is in a very good vintage condition, relacquered to bring out the wood’s beautiful honey tones. Some slight thinning to the veneer on one door visible on close inspection.
After WWII, Braakman was sent to the US to learn about new production processes. Inspired by Eames’ use of bent ply, Braakman returned to develop his laminated birch ply series. This cupboard is an excellent example of the series.
