The three-seat Anfibio sofa was designed by Alessandro Becchi for Giovannetti Collezioni in 1970. It’s remarkable for its playful, overstuffed silhouette and its ability to unfold into a lounge bed thanks to its side straps. The sofa’s avant-garde design and innovative construction influenced generations of designers and remains a fine example of hybrid, multifunctional furniture.
Becchi (1946-1987) studied in Florence. In 1972, he was invited to exhibit at “Italy: the new domestic landscape” at MoMA in New York, where he presented the Anfibio (which is now part of the permanent collection). Becchi had a longstanding relationship with furniture producer Giovannetti, for which he designed a number of pieces.
The sofa is in good vintage condition and comes in a dark green leather.
