Shigeru Uchida Three-seater ISU sofa

Solid and self-assured, the ISU sofa by Japanese 20th-century designer Shigeru Uchida (1943-2016) is a masterpiece in industrial refinement. A major figure in post-war Japan, Uchida left a distinct mark on the world of contemporary design. Multiple works are held in permanent collections of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Montreal Museum of Decorative Arts and others. 

The piece was reissued by Pastoe in the Netherlands in 1995 and has been recently upholstered in a soft black mohair velvet. It stands on solid aluminium legs, giving the substantial form a clean, architectural finish.
