Walter Wirz Floating shelf in walnut

Designed by Walter Wirz for Wilhelm Renz in the 1960s, this clean floating walnut shelf is a refined example of mid-century modern design. Its slender profile and beautifully figured walnut veneer create a light presence, while the pared-back form allows the natural material to take centre stage.

Practical and understated, it works equally well as a standalone piece or as part of a wider composition, offering an ideal setting for books, ceramics or collectibles.

Walter Wirz’s work was characterised by a restrained, functional approach that prioritised proportion, materiality and longevity. It was produced by the German manufacturer Wilhelm Renz, renowned for its precisely engineered modular furniture.

The shelf is in very good vintage condition, with only minor light discolouration to the top surface of the upper shelf. This can be professionally restored upon request before delivery.
