Initially conceived by Bruno Pollak and manufactured by Cox, this original 1930s set manufactured has been stripped back to its raw steel frames and taken in a new direction by Ally Capellino.
Renowned for its quiet simplicity and enduring functionality, the East London accessory label is recognised for its modern design sensibility. Ally’s practice has long been underpinned by Architecture, a design language shaped by structure, proportion and material clarity. Her ‘Bums on Seats’ series (2013) is a cheeky reinterpretation of early 20th century British ‘PEL chairs’.
Ally looked at the way we position ourselves whilst seated – ‘Left leaning’, ‘Knees up’ – as a starting point for the leather seats and then designed eight variations on the theme. Exhibited at the V&A as part of London Design Festival in 2013 – also the year Béton Brut began – this unique set of chairs is now available to buy.
The set is in good condition. The leather seats and frames feature some marks, stains and scuffs in line with age and use.
