Geneva-born architect Pierre Jeanneret (b.1896–1967) is best known for his decades-long collaboration with Le Corbusier, particularly their work on the city of Chandigarh in India.
Designed around 1960, this pair of Showroom armchairs, model no. PJ-SI-49-A, was possibly produced for the Tagore Theatre at Punjab University, Chandigarh.
Constructed with leather and teak, the relationship between seat, leg and armrest casts a balanced composition. Carefully aligned, the proportions hold in equilibrium, characterised by its X-shaped structure.
