This solid wood coffee table, possibly made of elm, was designed and crafted by multidisciplinary Italian artist and designer Urano Palma. A figure of the Avant Garde, Palma was perhaps best known for his intricate handmade pieces in wood, such as this one.
This coffee table dates from the 1980s and the chunky legs and top have an architectural quality to them, referring to ancient parquet motifs and classical patterns in construction. The ingenuity of the wood placement shows both the mind of both an artist and a maker in the design process.
The surfaces of this table have been sensitively restored to freshen up all the surfaces without removing signs of use and patina, which make the piece charming.
