Daniele Baroni (1935-2016) was an Italian writer who specialised in design. He published many thoroughly researched books throughout his successful career. While his books spanned design, architecture and graphic design were his focus. His keys works examine specific architects and designers such as Carlo Ponzini, Maurizio Duranti, Giotto Stoppino and Gerrit Rietveld. The latter project was certainly the inspiration for this bespoke desk designed by Baroni in the Constructivist style.
Rietveld’s designs are instantly recognisable for their dynamism, angularity and weightlessness which Baroni has attempted to emulate in his own design. This piece is a one-off most likely made by a carpenter local to Baroni’s place of residence in the north of Italy. The desk is well made and has been constructed from solid pine accented by ebonised wood details. It is highly functional with a cupboard on one side and six draws on the other. An ebonised cube alcove on both sides affording the user the potential to store items whilst simultaneously framing them neatly.
The desk is in good vintage condition with traces of use all over. Minor surface marks and scuffs can be found across the surfaces which can be restored upon request.
