Named for the slim central pillar or mullion that supports a grand entryway, this substantial trumeau-style mirror has a distinctive panelled frame that nods to 18th century tastes. Its stepped geometric panels offer era-spanning versatility. It would be well suited to a spot above a mantelpiece.
The piece appears to have been assembled in the twentieth century from materials of varying age and quality – with a board back panel. The chalk paint finish has been sensitively redone, giving the woodwork a gently weathered look that emphasises a sense of depth.
