With the appearance of sandstone and holey cheese – travertine is a golden stone or marble that is highly sought after. In the 70s and 80s, following on from Italian stone houses like Up & Up and designers like Mario Bellini reviving it a decade earlier, you saw some interesting-shaped anonymous pieces, usually coffee and dining tables appearing in the material, coming out of France, Italy and Scandinavia.
Highly unusual to find it in lamp, more so with the shade constructed from travertine too. Here it makes for a pleasing down lighter in the form of a pyramid on a cubic base. Sourced from its original owners, on top of a mountain in Grenoble.
Good condition. Rewired and PAT tested, with UK black plug.
