Robin Day Hillestak dining set

Hille, UK, 1950

28.10.16 SOLD

Robin Day was an iconic British industrial designer who rose to prominence in 1951 when he came up with the seating for the Festival of Britain. The Hille furniture company was started in east London in 1906 and in 1949 they recruited new design talent Day, giving him carte blanche to revolutionise low cost furniture. The Hillestak series was his first commission and an instant success. The table is made from a solid beech frame and walnut veneered top. It folds down for small spaces. The four Hillestak chairs have a walnut veneer and solid beech frame and are in lovely restored condition. The table top has a few minor marks to the finish. But can be refinished on request for a further £80. Price is for the whole set.
