Raphael Raffel Croissant sofa

In the style of Maison Honoré, Paris, 1970s

SOLD 06.23

Raphaël Raffel (1912-2000) studied at the École des Beaux Arts and became a renown interior designer from the 1940s to the end of the twentieth century. His shop in Paris attracted a group of dedicated collectors including Josephine Baker.

This sofa’s organic roundedness evokes bodily sensations including edibility which some have likened to a banana or bean, as well as a croissant. It was designed for Maison Honoré, Paris with each sofa being made-to-order. This has made the piece a highly sought-after item of design history.

The sofa is newly reupholstered in an ivory wool bouclé by Pierre Frey which further emphasises its pliability and sensual appeal to the eye and the hand. Pair available.
