This gargantuan papier-mâché flower lamp looks as if it belongs within the tropical glasshouses of Kew Gardens. It appears in the style of Ralph Adron’s papier maché works featured in Max Clendinning’s Islington project. Within the petals of the flower sits a glass shade which emits a gentle glow. The lamp was made using pages of Melody Maker, dating it to 1977 through the dates on the magazine fronts.
The surface of the lamp has some cracks and discolouration to the painted papier-mâché, with some of the interior newspapers peaking through. There is some rusting to the internal metal structure of the lamp.It has been recently rewired and PAT tested to UK standards.
