Bruno Gatta (1904-1976) founded Stilnovo in 1946 in the suburbs of Milan in northern Italy. The company was founded to merge cutting edge manufacturing processes with innovative materials and forward-thinking forms. Gatta initially designed pieces himself however, post-war employed now renowned lighting designer Gaetano Sciolari to head up the design team. Stilnovo produced instantly recognisable pieces through working with prevalent up-and-coming Italian architects and designers such as Cini Boeri, Joe Colombo and Ettore Sottsass.
This pair of lights produced by Stilnovo in the 1980’s was most likely designed in house. Their simple elegant postmodern form affords them a fair amount of versatility and charm. They are solidly made from machined metal and have a good weight to them. The simple shade spreads the light emitted upwards making them excellent up-lighters on shelving or bedside table lamps.
In excellent vintage condition with very minor traces of use. Remain in original EU wiring, however, can be re-wired to comply with other national standards on request.
