A postmodern paean to classical proportions, this iron floor lamp recalls an ionic column with its scroll-like volute and stepped base. Its deftest trick is the illusion of Romanesque plaster on the half-moon uplighter, produced with a rag roll technique. It’s been rewired and PAT tested to UK standards.
Founded by architect Alfred Cochrane and interior designer Frank Carroll, Al Frank was an Irish manufacturer once stocked in Harrods and Selfridges. A version of this lamp was found in Beirut’s Sursock Palace, Cochrane’s family home, before it was heavily damaged in the 2020 port explosion.
