Gino Sarfatti (1912 – 1985) has been hailed the ‘Master of light’. After a brief spell in nautical engineering and entirely self-taught, he developed nearly 700 light fittings between 1930s and 1970s. The 238/1 wall lamp was a signature piece designed for his company Arteluce – the entire collection of which was sold to Flos in 1973, after which he retreated into early retirement on Lake Como.
Adored for its delicacy, simplicity and quality of light, it comprises a wall-mounted loop that cradles a glass orb wired from below. The design was made in different finishes – this pair from brass plated metal with opaline glass shades. Rewired and PAT tested for the UK, can be re-wired for other countries on request.
