The 7309 lamp exemplifies the functional elegance of Paavo Tynell’s designs. The main feature is the curved copper shade which has been left to patinate into a dark verdigris. It caps an opal glass bulb, casting a gracefully quality of light.
Paavo Tynell (1890-1973) is one of Finland’s best known and collected mid-century designers. He was a pioneer of European lighting design and a founder of the first lighting manufacturing company in Finland, Taito Oy in 1918. Tynell’s company collaborated with up-and-coming talent as well as more established names such as Alvar Aalto. Tynell’s own designs within the catalogue are much collected for their elegant brass forms, beautiful detailing, and high quality. Our 7309 has some wear, consistent without outdoor use. At some point the milk-glass globes and back-plates have been replaced.
