Marsura Salvino small fire screen

Italy, 1960s

SOLD 12.23

Salvino Marsura was born in Treviso in 1938 and learnt his craft in the dynamic workshop of sculptor Toni Benetton. His ironwork art and furniture relishes in the manual aesthetic of the forge, giving voice to the raw metal and the processes of its manipulation including sweltering heat, hammering, bending and welding. The results can be beautifully abstract, geometric or sensitive observations of natural forms. The flickering quality of firelight is emulated in the form of the dancing iron ribbons on this screen. A closer look might evoke the paint trails of an Abstract Expressionist painting.

It comes in good vintage condition, with the metal showing some signs of patina and oxidisation across all surfaces. The artist’s signature is engraved on the surface.
