Joe Colombo white 4801 chair

Kartell, Italy 1965

SOLD 05.20

Joe Colombo, first artist, then architect, designed the Model 4801 chair from three curved pieces bent beech ply – and nothing else. Colombo’s innovative idea was to design a lounge chair that could simply slot together with no, screws or fasteners of any kind. The weight of the sitter then holds it in place. Produced by Kartell of Italy in 1965 it is an icon of Italian Modernism.

This one has the original cushion and the lacquer is excellent condition. It bears the serial number 41 – making it a rare first edition.
