Jim Partridge and Liz Walmsley bookcase

Jim Partridge (1953-) and Liz Walmsley (1952-) started collaborating in 1986. Carved from blocks of green oak and then scorched to give it a striking deep black finish, this bookcase’s dark tone and size leads it to have a grand presence, following their intention to make “work with a strong but quiet presence in the landscape.”

In good vintage condition, the surface has an innate roughness, with minor scuffs and open wood grain. It has undergone some minor surface restoration and had its joints restored.
