Dorothy Abbott (1932-2015) studied at the Art Students League and later at Teacher’s College Columbia University where she received a Masters in Art Education. Later a sculptor fulltime, she went on to divide her time between the US and Italy where she would go to carve marble from the foothills of the Apennine mountains and cast her bronze sculpture.
This piece is a beautiful example of her carved marble work. Its simplicity in form allows for the innate beauty of the marble to take centre stage. The sculpture remains on its original wooden base. In good condition, the wooden base shows signs of wear and water damage. This can be restored on request.
