Claudio Salocchi (1934 to 2012) was a highly regarded industrial designer, furniture designer and architect, known for his detailed research into furniture layouts and configurations. As a result, we see innovative compositions without compromise on functionality.
The Paione modular sofa, designed for Sormani, consists of four elements that can be rearranged. Two have integrated backrests. The other two can be used as footstools, joining with the other elements to extend the sofa’s length or put one’s feet up. Each unit is made from upholstered Polyurethane affixed to a plastic tray which makes them incredibly lightweight and easy to move around. Another interesting feature is the seat pad cushion detailing which upholstered with chamfered internal edges. This allows these elements to be easily removed and cleaned or recovered if required. We upholstered this sofa in beautiful and natural aniline-dyed leather from Denmark. It is extremely soft to the touch and will age and patina with use.
