Cini Boeri was an architect, designer of furniture and lighting, and a leading female practitioner in the Italian Modern movement. Having begun her career working for Gavina SpA, Boeri was invited to design furniture for the American furniture company Knoll, after it had taken over Gavina in 1968. The ‘Gradual’ Lounge was Boeri’s first design for Knoll and it shows the designer at her most classically stylish. Each chair and sofa in the suite is superbly proportioned and fits into a modular system. Innovative use of materials is exemplified in the fiberglass-reinforced plastic frames that support generous cushions. Boeri later recalled that she “tried to do the design in a most vigorous and strict manner. It was a system, a new way to produce a sofa in plastic.”
Original fibreglass subject to light wear. Reupholstered in a premium long-pile mohair velvet.
