Christian Rosival 112 Nägel relief painting

This intriguing artwork by Christian Rosival is understated, yet playful. Created from the manipulation of roofing nails, arranged and painted over in white acrylic, his work conjures up the notions and processes expressed in early works by artist Jasper Johns.

Undulations and crevasses are formed by the three-dimensionality of the nails. These create shadows that enhance the piece’s depth. Monogrammed lower left ‘CR’. Good condition with partial traces, one minor loss to the paint and ware.
