Aldo Tura (1909-1963) was a hands-on designer who experimented greatly with traditional craftsmanship hand applied craft processes and finishes out of his workshop in Milan. He is best known for his tables and lamps, which drew on shapes from the Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements. His designs were minimal allowing interesting materials such as parchment, eggshell and goatskin to be centre stage.
This dining table is a very strong example of his work, simple in form, with a soft curved oval top affixed to an oval pedestal base. The ethereal lacquered goatskin is softly crackled and almost appears to glow. The table is in excellent condition with one minor scratch into the lacquered top. In another listing we have a matching sideboard.
