Elegant rope and ‘Bois Noirci’ wood chair by Francis Jourdain. Jourdain was a well known French writer, designer, artist and political activist. He opened up a small atelier in 1912 that specialised in producing modular wooden furniture for the working class. This chair is a lovely example of Jourdain’s style and etho and is documented in the literature. Made from an archetypal frame structure from wood with a woven rope backrest and seat. The bound string seat features the disctinctive pattern used across several of his designs. The chair shows wear and paint loss to the frame and the rope cord has darkened with time.
