The Kubbestol is a Scandinavian chair commonly carved from a single tree trunk. Ones made in Sweden tend to bare ornate carvings to their exterior whilst Danish ones tend to be made like a barrel. This chair features a lovely curved backrest with cutout detail. The seat is removable allowing the internal structure to be used for storage.
The underside of the seat is carved with the maker’s initials and the date 1780. The surfaces of this chair look like they have been painted at various points over the years but subsequently stripped back giving it a lovely surface patina. The chair is in sound structural condition with one repair to the seat element.
